Local artist Mandy Monkcom returns to guide you through creating a portrait from a photograph using soft pastels. You’ll learn about the proportions of the face and, using soft pastels and pastel pencils on toned paper, experiment with technique and colour mixing. Discover how to capture expression and character in the face to produce a beautiful likeness, bringing your subject to life with your own artistic touch.
The workshop leader will bring reference photos, but you are welcome to bring your own. The face in your photo should ideally be 18–20 cm from chin to top of head. Ensure light falls from one side to create shadows, and try to avoid photos where teeth are showing.
Participants will need to bring their own materials. A detailed guide will be supplied after booking takes place.
