Step back in time for a musical of songs inspired by the real-life story of five women who started a fire brigade to protect their university college – but ended up fighting more than fires in a struggle for equality.
It follows the story of five trailblazing women, all studying science at 1880s Girton College, Cambridge: physicist Hertha Ayrton, astronomer Annie Maunder, botanist Ethel Sargant, mathematician Charlotte Scott and chemist Ida Freund.
As this unlikely crew fights fires of every kind, they begin to realise they’re part of a bigger battle: for the right to equal education, to work as scientists, and to vote. Even if it means starting a few fires themselves…
Set against the unique backdrop of Goring Fire Station, Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service are delighted to host highlights of this evocative musical in concert - in its first performance at a Fire Station!
Bring your own seating and picnic for an evening celebrating the inclusive spirit and diversity of the fire service.
